Welcome to the enchanting world of Whymper Stube, a gem nestled in the heart of Zermatt, Switzerland. Located at Bahnhofstrasse 80, this charming Swiss restaurant is part of the historic Hotel Monte Rosa, one of the oldest hotels in the area. Here, guests are not merely fed; they are treated to an experience that encapsulates the spirit of Swiss cuisine amidst breathtaking alpine scenery.
Whymper Stube is renowned for its cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to unwind after a day of exploring the majestic Swiss landscape. With only three tables outside, diners are afforded an intimate setting with views that complement the culinary delights served within. It's a spot that effortlessly marries comfort with elegance, where every meal becomes a cherished memory.
The offerings here are a true highlight. The restaurant shines in its dedication to traditional Swiss dishes, particularly the classic Raclette and Fondue. Michael Anderson raves about the captivating scenery, but what truly steals the show are the flavors. Imagine melting cheese bubbling in pot as you dip crusty bread into a warm embrace of melted delight. Oleksii Kravchuk echoed this sentiment, recounting how the staff suggested lunchtime for a more relaxed experience, allowing him to savor both Raclette and the divine desserts on offer. And for those who wish to indulge their sweet tooth, the chocolate fondue—though a lesser-known delight—has left lasting impressions on many visitors, including Nancy A., who discovered that this rich treat is offered at only a few establishments in Switzerland.
The service at Whymper Stube deserves a mention as well. With a team that is not only friendly but also fluent in English, diners can enjoy a seamless experience without any language barriers. The efficiency highlighted by Tee Cee and the attentiveness of the staff enhance the overall dining experience, transforming a simple meal into a memorable occasion.
So whether you’re stopping by for a delectable lunch special or an evening of fondue, make sure Whymper Stube is on your list. As Travelling Gourmets noted, it's increasingly busy as dinner draws closer, a testament to its reputation. If you find yourself in Zermatt, treat yourself to the culinary wonders of Whymper Stube—a place where every dish tells a story and every bite is steeped in Swiss tradition.

On top of the amazing food, the restaurant’s setting is simply breathtaking. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, with views that make you want to linger just a little longer, it created the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening.

We came to this place to try Raclette and it was an incredible experience. The restaurant was fully booked for the evening but the very kind staff offered us to come during lunch when it is less busy. We enjoyed it so much that we also ordered dessert. We noticed that many people were ordering fondue as well, so it is probably something worth trying too. The staff spoke English very well even though some of them were definitely from Portugal.

Got in right before the lunch special was over. The fondue was good, though we wished we had more food for the price. The wine was good and the service was very efficient.

We didn’t try the dinner at Whymper Stube, but we stopped by just for the chocolate fondue. Surprisingly, chocolate fondue isn’t as popular in Switzerland as cheese fondue, so it was a pleasant surprise to find a place that serves it. Located inside Hotel Monte Rosa, one of the oldest hotels in Zermatt, this cozy restaurant offers a charming setting. There are only three tables outside, but if you get one, you’ll enjoy a nice view and a good spot for people watching. The service was friendly and welcoming. The chocolate fondue itself was rich and satisfying, served with strawberries and bananas. We opted out of the marshmallows. If you’re in Zermatt and craving chocolate fondue, this is one of the very few places that offers it.

Wonderful time in Whymper Stube. It was our first time having raclette, and we loved it. Their sausage "Whymper-Stube" was also delicious. We went mid-afternoon, after arriving in Zermatt. It's a popular place and started to get busy closer to the dinner hour.

I had oil fondue here. It’s safer to make a reservation in advance. Shortly after I arrived, more and more customers came in, and the place was full in no time. Since I had reserved, I was able to enjoy my meal at a relaxed pace. It was my first time staying in Zermatt, and I had a wonderful time.

Delicious and authentic Swiss restaurant for fondue and other classic Swiss cuisine. Definitely recommend making a reservation way in advance. The host suggested booking 3 weeks in advance to people who tried to walk in. They do seem to accommodate large groups. The interior is very cute and homey.

This nice little Swiss restaurant was a delighttul find. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with charming decor that added to the cozy ambiance. The service was fast and friendly, making us feel welcome from the start. We enjoyed delicious soups that were rich in flavor and comforting, perfect for a Swiss dining experience. We also tried their sausages, which were expertly prepared and full of taste. The quality of the food was excellent, and the prices were reasonable for dining in Switzerland. Overall, a lovely spot for a great meal with a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!
